I just don't have the time or energy to deal with the trouble that will likely come in if I open registrations up again. If you know what I mean. It sucks that a few bad eggs can spoil it for everyone else, I know. If anyone has any ideas about how to deal with this, let me know.

Maybe you could have a set numer of registrations each day or something and then after that number had been reached, no one else can register until the next day or week or whatever.

Off topic but I think it was this board that had like a weekly or monthly or something list of people that signed up but then never posted or came back or something like that. Was it the series?

Promote some new mods, let them deal with it. There are a good number of people who read every single post made on this board who I'm sure would be fine helping moderate extra traffic.

^^ Werd. I'm on here all the time and read all the crap. Though there are some days where I just don't have the time to come online at all (sigh... university).
Anyway, there must be some sort of system we can come up with to ensure that newcomers won't just post once and then bugger off. Perhaps if someone gets sent a reminder e-mail if they don't make a post for like a week or a month or something? And maybe not allow people who have usernames like *xoxoxDaVeY_hAvOk_rox_4lyfxoxox* (although that would be bordering on censorship I know, but it seems fairly fool proof to me).

This is from my perspective, but it seems like a very large reason for closing registrations was personal harassment of members in the community and the continued harassment of admods both on and off the board. It's beyond making sure everyone plays nice in their posts. I don't have a problem with putting lots of time and effort into watching what's going on with the board myself. However, should repetitive onslaught of harassment occur I think it would become unfair to members here, especially as many already had the experience where their privacy and safety was questioned. But I would be very happy to try opening registrations again to see what happens.

I don't think bugging people with e-mails about their membership to the board would be a good thing. People should have the freedom to come and go as they need to. I don't think it matters how much people contribute (though regulars are nice), and certainly many members of the board enjoy reading more than they do participating.

Open registration for 20 people a year. Make them endure several physically and emotional challenges. Construct a long university type exam of trivial knowledge of afi and make them write a 10 page paper (single space) on the history of afi. haha...make 'em suffer!! lulz. jaykay

We need an application process so we can racially profile people to insure no more white people are allowed in.

But for reals, just open up the registration. Is it that hard to close it again if people start acting up? Just do a week test trial or something, like open it for a week and close it. It seems like people have no faith in humanity and are punishing the interwebz because of a few bad eggs :/ I'm pretty sure people are smart enough now to not post compromising personal info/pictures. Just don't be afraid to ban the shit out of people, but whatevs.

Maybe we could have a period of time after someone signs up in which we can kick them out if they cause trouble. I've been a mod before (BIS), and I'm on here all the time. I think I'm pretty savvy to what flies on here and what doesn't.

....or people should have to fight me to get in. I can be the boss at the end of the level.

The problem is within a week, day, or even a few hours, a lot of shit can happen. It's not that we don't have faith in humanity, its that we've already had accounts stolen and hacked while registration was down, and it's difficult to keep things like this from happening.

Also, compromising pictures or not, even just the pictures in the Picture Thread can be taken out and posted on sites like 4chan or what not. I mean, it's happened. The distribution any picture without permission, innocent or not, isn't okay.

And ban as we may (cough, several times) proxies upon proxies have been used to try and register accounts, and it's just become tiresome to chase after all of them. There's room for abuse right there alone.

I would love to open registration and get new members if you guys might have some good ideas, but currently it's still in a state where it would be a big hassle to keep the board ... I guess "safe," if you will.

See it's still pretty silly to use that as an excuse to keep registration closed. I know, for a fact, that if someone wants to enough, he or she can get into any web community. If it's using proxies or "borrowing" accounts or any other plethora of methods. If ensuring that pictures posted on the board are kept safe is the highest priority, then pictures just shouldn't be allowed to be posted. Everyone should know when they post a picture anyone on the internet that they are effectively giving that picture to the world.

I can understand that people don't want to get harassed, and there are plenty of undesirables that will able to be much more vocal if registration opens up again, but the board was pretty anemic until news about CL hit, and after the hype dies down the board will slow down too, and now is the time we want to try to develop our community more.

Just my 2 cents... Not trying to tell Alli how to run this site, just how I feel about the matter.

It should be very secretive and fancy. "You are cordially invited to be a part of the sexiest board ever. Please look in the tunnel under Home Depot for the next message. Tell no one."
What would keep my Grinchy soul from selling invites on ebay though?
